I often wonder if the public is aware of the fact that art galleries are the only retailers in existence, who do not have to invest their own money to maintain an inventory.......that gallery owners are the only business people on earth, who receive the products from which they earn their profits, completely free of charge.......and that, as a result of this, gallery owners are the most arrogant, most abusive retailers in existence. To open a gallery, you simply announce that you're looking for a bunch of artists who'd like to sell their work, and right away, you'll find a whole lot of suckers with a whole lot of artwork, practically begging you to show their stuff.......on consignment.......and totally for free. Artists don't get paid unless and until a gallery sells their work, in return for which, the gallery owners are supposed to promote those artists by providing them with lots of exhibitions and other forms of publicity. This professional obligation is one that gallery owners don't ever take seriously and almost never live up to. And artists, being the broke, shy, unrealistic and non-pushy individuals they usually are, will be afraid to confront a gallery owner who has neglected to promote them. When gallery owners do sell an artist's work, they're supposed to immediately pay the artist their share of the selling price, which is anywhere from 70% to as low as 40%.......but in the real world, gallery owners will hold on to that money for as long as they possibly can, while getting a sadistic pleasure from watching their artists beg for that which is rightfully theirs. Gallery owners are legally responsible for the works they've been given in trust, and are supposed to re-imburse their artists for any theft or damage done to their works. This, of course, never ever happens, because gallery owners know full well, that no impoverished artist will ever be able to sue them. Because of the nature of this gallery-artist relationship, gallery ownership attracts the kind of interpersonal bullies who enjoy torturing those who are dependent on them. Gallery owners like to refer to their artists as their "stable".......the only other individuals who use this word to describe those who provide their income, are pimps. So next time you walk into a gallery, try to remember these sorry facts. They might even inspire you to treat some gallery owners with the total disdain they deserve. Wednesday, March 18, 2009

I LOVE I love brand-new soap bars that still have a perfect company logo-relief stamped into them. I love it when a man walks past me in the opposite direction, and tips his hand to his hat in a fleeting gesture only Western men seem to make. More than anything else on earth, I love the mute button on my remote control, and often wish that someone would invent a silencer for human beings. I love the early-morning celebration of the Dow and the Nasdaq......that small group of guests applauding the opening bell......imagine if every business did that......wouldn't it inspire a truly positive start of each new day? And last but not least, I love my little Fuji camera that always says "Hello!" when I start it up.....and "See you!" when I shut it off. Tuesday, March 17, 2009

ELITIST JERKS ==+== Our freedom and our spirit It started out sort of quietly as a "for-your-own-good" order of self-protection, when all Americans were told that they MUST wear seat-belts.....after which we were observed very carefully, and when we never protested this invasion of personal privacy but did exactly what we'd been told to do, America's DUPLICITOUS ELITIST JERKS proceeded to torture us with an endless amount of Everyone's car MUST have an airbag! Every spotted owl MUST have an entire forest to live in! Every boy-child MUST be drugged with Ritalin! Every girl-child MUST be injected with Gardasil! Every incandescent lightbulb MUST be destroyed! Every alternative medication MUST be forbidden! Every American MUST believe in Global Warming! Every American MUST switch to digital TV at a specific date! OR IMAGINATION Have you ever fabricated someone's personality Except.....then they do or say something that's so far out of whack with the individual you fabricated, and you realize with intense shock, that your imaginary man or woman really does not exist at all, but that he or she is someone you unconsciously decided to fabricate as being there, because you desperately needed for them to exist at a time in your life, when you could no longer face the icecold void of them NOT being on this earth? In this way, a lonely child might fabricate its perfect playmate.....a lonely man might fabricate his perfect woman.....an entire population might fabricate their perfect leader.

MOST O PERFECT ONE I have created thousands of works of art, and every few years, or so, I decide that one of them turned out to be the absolute most perfect one. My latest perfect one has been the result of a xerox-machine calamity, during which the printer mutilated several of the large sheets I'd been trying to duplicate, and when someone came to my rescue by pulling those mutilated sheets out of the machine's innards, I begged him not to toss them into the trash, but to give them to me, because I suddenly found them to be of immense value. When I came home, I made a box on which I stuck a simple center-form that soared upwards.....then glued each of my mutilated xerox sheets on each side of it. And there it was......my brand-new, latest, perfect work of art. It's the first one that you'll see on: Thursday, March 5, 2009

I listened to President Obama addressing US Marines at Camp Lejeune, last week, and found him to be quite exceptional. I listened to Tim Geithner answering several hours worth of Congressional questions, and found him to be patient, perceptive, and highly intelligent. They're rapidly growing into positions that are without question, the most difficult and demanding ones on earth. I'm beginning to develop a high regard for both men.

O There are several expressions that are unique to the American Southwest. One of those, is "No-See-Ums", which is a wonderfully perfect description for the itty-bitty little bugs that exist here, and that manage to bite everybody without anyone ever having seen them. In my own experience, there are 2 types of "No-See-Ums"......one that bites you quickly and without you having even noticed that it did, until you see the artwork that's been left behind: a kind of semi-circle-design of little red marks that might be an image of their royal crest. It itches like crazy.....you scratch it like crazy.....it sits there for a couple of days, and then it vanishes. The other "No-See-Um" usually attacks your face, where it leaves a painful bite filled with some kind of white gook that, if you don't squeeze like hell to remove it, will become infected and stay where it was planted, where it'll and keep itching and hurting for many months to come. I was just now thinking that there exist individuals that might be called "No-See-Ums".......the kind of person who smiles at you and maybe hugs you with what seems to like genuine affection, yet after you've spent some time with them, you feel kinda lousy and you wonder why.....until you realize that they've shot several bites of psychological poison into your system, and that you've got to clean up the mess they made, if you'd like to return to being as happy as you were before they arrived to kill your joy. Have YOU been with a Sunday, March 1, 2009

I saw & heard that Rush Limbaugh guy for the first time, last night......holy cannoli.......that man is hatred personified, and I can't even guess at the politics of an audience that gave him a wildly enthusiastic applause. So far, the new administration hasn't been doing all that badly. I like that they re-installed CHOICE in the matter of abortion, and that they seem to have at least partially de-criminalized the growing and use of marijuana. I do wish they'd disconnect themselves from their own party, since it's as totally insane and fanatical as the other one. Do you think our entire government might improve if there were no political parties at all? Just individuals mandated to represent those who elected them, i.e.
